Report: OSU Cowboy Back Jelani Woods Enters Transfer Portal
OSU fans aren’t going to like this one.
Jelani Woods has long been a fan favorite in Stillwater, but unfortunately for the Cowboy fans hollering for the Pokes to get Woods the ball more, Woods might not be a Cowboy much longer.
Woods, a redshirt junior Cowboy back, entered the transfer portal Monday, according to 247Sports’ Cody Nagel.
Woods came to OSU as a 6-foot-7 quarterback prospect in the 2017 class. After redshirting as a QB, Woods made the switch to Cowboy back. In three seasons as a de facto tight end, Woods caught 31 passes for 361 yards and four touchdowns.
Woods could still return to OSU after testing the transfer portal’s waters, but that hasn’t happened all that often since the portal’s inception.
Woods would-be exit leaves Logan Carter, Dayton Metcalf and Braden Cassity as likely contributors at the position in the Cheez-It Bowl.
As far as the future is concerned, OSU took a tight end in their 2020 class in Quinton Stewart and signed a 2021 junior college tight end in Austin Jarrard.
A big complaint from OSU fans is that the Cowboys don’t use their Cowboy backs enough in the passing attack. Of the 180 receptions OSU has this season, just 16 have come from Cowboy backs.
