Jelani Woods Commits to Virginia
Woods is headed closer to home.
Jelani Woods is headed back east.
Woods, a Georgia native, announced his commitment to Virginia on Thursday evening, just three days after the former Oklahoma State Cowboy back entered the transfer portal.
Woods was a fan-favorite in Stillwater, making the position change from quarterback to tight end. He developed into a solid blocker for the Cowboys, but OSU fans often showed frustration with how little Woods was used in the passing game.
He finished his OSU career with 31 catches for 361 yards and four touchdowns.
The Cavaliers used their tight end quite a bit in 2020. Tony Poljan, who stands similarly to Woods at 6-foot-7, 265 pounds, was UVA’s second-leading receiver with 38 catches for 411 yards and six touchdowns. Poljan was a senior in 2020.
OSU fans will miss Woods, but his exit doesn’t destroy the position group. The Cowboys still have seniors Logan Carter and Dayton Metcalf (who could return in 2021), as well as redshirt sophomore Braden Cassity, freshman Quiton Stewart and incoming junior college transfer Austin Jarrard.
