Four-star In-State Standout Trey Alexander Reopens Recruitment
The OKC-area star had signed with Auburn.
Four-star Heritage Hall standout Trey Alexander, the top-rated basketball prospect in the state of Oklahoma according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings, announced Thursday that he is reopening his recruitment and backing away from his previous commitment to Auburn.
Alexander originally committed to the Tigers and signed with the program in November.
Oklahoma State was for a long time considered a potential landing spot for Alexander, whose first Division I offer came from OSU in 2017. He visited on numerous occasions but shortly after Auburn got into the mix in 2020, the Tigers were secured his commitment and signature.
It’s unclear why Alexander reopened his recruitment, but Allen Flanigan, a star swingman, recently announced he was putting the draft on hold and returning as a junior next season. His return makes what would have been early playing time for Alexander unlikely at Auburn with the arrivals of five-star Jabari Smith and Arkansas transfer Desi Sills.
That situation in comparison with what OSU could theoretically offer could be an enticing pitch for Alexander to reconsider the Pokes. OSU lost Cade Cunningham and Ferron Flavors and while it returns its depth at wing, he could still be in a position to contribute early in Stillwater.
