Bye-Week Fodder: How Some Former Cowboys Are Doing in Their New Spots
Some former Pokes doing well in their new scenery.
The Cowboys don’t play this weekend, but there will be plenty of players Oklahoma State fans are familiar with on the gridiron.
Since it’s the bye week, I thought it’d be interesting to catch up on a few former Oklahoma State players. Here’s a look at five.
Gavin Freeman, Baylor
Gavin Freeman accounted for about 23% of OSU’s receiving production last season, and he’s already nearing his 2025 numbers four games into 2026.
Freeman landed at Baylor, where he has been a human highlight reel. He’s caught 35 passes for 364 yards and two touchdowns. That reception number leads the Big 12 by 11 catches entering Saturday.
He wasted no time whatsoever making an impact as a Bear. In Baylor’s first game of the season against Auburn, Freeman caught a dozen balls for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Freeman is still as fearless as ever, something he proved last weekend. He caught a pass behind the line of scrimmage and got a running start at a Colorado defender. He used said running start to jump up and over a Buffalo before bouncing off a few and gaining even more yards.

Josh Ford, Alabama
Josh Ford got punched in the helmet and made a one-handed touchdown grab last week — just another day at the office.
The touchdown grab was actually Ford’s first catch of the young season. With a catch like this, I imagine Alabama will start looking his way a little bit more.

After that game, Ford noted that South Carolina edge rusher Dylan Stewart punched him on three occasions. It was part of an all-time crash out from Stewart, who has since been suspended.

“He’s a great player,” Ford said. “We had a lot of fun today. I think he punched me three times, but it was awesome. Good battle.”

Hauss Hejny, Colorado State
Hauss Hejny has already electrified as a Ram, but unfortunately he’s running into injury troubles again.
In three games at Colorado State, Hejny has thrown for 619 yards and 10 touchdowns to just one interception while running for another 128 yards and a score. Oh, and for good measure, he has a 28-yard reception.

But in the midst of Colorado State’s 41-23 loss to BYU on Sept. 19, Hejny left with a hamstring injury and hasn’t played since. He was listed as questionable for Colorado State’s Pac-12 opener against Oregon State earlier this week but has since been downgraded to doubtful. It doesn’t look as if his year is done, at least.

Rodney Fields Jr., Kansas State
Rodney Fields Jr. seemingly entered a running back battle in his transfer to Kansas State, but through the Wildcats’ first four games, he’s simply been the better back.
Fields has carried a team-high 49 times, rushing for 274 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Avery Johnson leads the Wildcats in rushing yards, but Fields has the most behind him. Field’s rushing TDs lead his team, as well.

He has two 100-yard games already, going for 101 and a touchdown against Nicholls and 105 and a touchdown against Washington State.

Wendell Gregory, Kansas State
But as we remember, Fields wasn’t the only player who went from Cowboy to Cat.
Edge rusher Wendell Gregory is the Wildcats’ fourth-leading tackler with 16 total takedowns this season. He’s leading K-State with 8.5 tackles for loss and is tied for a team lead with 2.5 sacks. The tackle for loss total leads the Big 12 by 2.5 tackles for loss.
