Cowboys Rack Up Big 12 Weekly Honors in Win Against West Virginia

The Cowboys’ W in Morgantown was quite the team win, but it also came with some individual accolades.

The Big 12 announced its weekly awards on Monday, and it’s filled with Cowboys.

Offensive Player of the Week:

That’s a lot of orange — not too dissimilar to after the Cowboys beat Oregon in Week 2.

Starting with Mestemaker, the Cowboys’ quarterback threw for 389 yards and three touchdowns against the Mountaineers. He completed 10 passes of at least 20 yards and four of at least 40 yards. Mestemaker took the game over in the second half, throwing for 274 yards on just 14 attempts.

Wesloski tied a career-high with 17 tackles against the Mountaineers’ potent ground game. After the game, I asked him how one’s body feels after making 17 tackles in a game.

“Body’s gonna feel good tomorrow,” Wesloski said. “Waking up Sunday 1-0, it makes a lot of differences. Couldn’t have done it without my guys around me, allowed me to play free and fast, so credit to them, and credit to Coach Cass (defensive coordinator Skyler Cassity) for putting me in good position.”

Keltner went 4-for-4 on field-goal attempts in Morgantown, hitting from 30 yards, 19 yards, 29 yards and 47 yards. The SMU transfer is now 10-for-10 on the year, including being 5-for-5 from at least 30 yards out.

Not only did the OSU offensive line allow for Mestemaker’s big day, it also paved the way for the Cowboys to run for 220 yards, with the Cowboy offense finishing with 609 total yards. OSU ran for 5.4 yards a carry — bettering that of West Virginia’s 5.1 yards per carry. Cowboy running back Caleb Hawkins carried 31 times for 180 yards and a touchdown.
