Jordan Oliver Falls at Last Chance Olympic Qualifier

Jordan Oliver won the Olympic trials in April at the only weight that the United States had yet to qualify for the Olympics.

The World Olympic Qualifier is currently taking place in Sofia Bulgaria and Jordan’s weight, 65 KG, was competed on Thursday and Friday. Oliver worked his way to the semifinals where he met Poland’s two-time World Medalist Magomedmurad Gadzhiev.

Gadzhiev took an early lead against Oliver in the first period, scoring twice on step outs to open up a 2-0 lead. He took a 3-0 lead at the break courtesy of a shot clock point near the end of the first period. Oliver was able to score with less than a minute to go in the match and cut the Poland lead to 3-2, but could not find another takedown in the last 45 seconds. Gadzhiev finished out the match and posted a 3-2 win to earn the qualification spot. [TeamUSA.org]

Oliver defaulted out and did not wrestle the bronze medal match on Friday.

With Oliver’s loss, this will be the second consecutive Olympics that will not feature an Oklahoma State wrestler. The only other time that has occurred since 1924 was when the United States boycotted in 1980 and no one from Oklahoma State made the 1984 team.
