Recruiting Update: Cowboys Offer 2024 Edge Zine Umeozulu
OSU hosted a handful of prospective Pokes this week.
The dorms might be a little more empty this time of year, but there’s still plenty going on in the football offices.
For Mike Gundy and Co., recruiting never stops. This week a handful of prospective Pokes were on-hand to take in the facilities and meet with coaches, on an unofficial basis.
We’ll update you on who made the trek to Stillwater, but first, the Cowboys extended an offer to an intriguing prospect whose star is sure to rise.
Zina Umeozulu | Edge | 2024
On Tuesday, the Cowboys offered an intriguing edge rusher with a football pedigree.
Umeozulu may not have a star rating yet — he just finished his freshman year of high school — but he’s recruitment is already taking off.
Oklahoma State joins USC, Baylor and UTSA as programs to offer the Allen, Texas edge rusher. At 6-foot-3 and 205, and three years before he enrolls, he’s got potential in bunches.
Take a look at Zina’s freshman highlights.
His older brother Neto Umeozulu is a four-star prospect and the No. 7 interior O-Lineman in the 2022 class, according to 247Sports’ Composite ranking. He also holds an offer from OSU, among his sheet of 30-plus that includes Alabama, Ohio State and the like.
Morgan Pearson | ⭐⭐⭐ WR| 2023
Ardmore-native Morgan Pearson was in town this week and was able to kill two birds with one stone.
Pearson holds offers both in football from Gundy and in baseball from Josh Holliday. The former came this past February and the latter was in his hand a year ago.
Pearson is a three-star wide receiver, whose fastball has been clocked at 88 mph. He’s the No. 5 prospect in Oklahoma, according to 247Sports. The only wide receiver above him is another two-sport OSU target (football and hoops), Jacobe Johnson, though OSU appears interested in Johnson as a DB. He was also in Stilly this week.
Ethan Thomason | ⭐⭐⭐ OL | 2023
The Cowboys hosted Thomason, a three-star 2023 tackle with offers from Texas Tech and Colorado State.
He doesn’t yet a composite ranking, but 247 has tabbed him the No. 3 prospect out of Colorado and the No. 37 OT overall.
Joshua Bates | ⭐⭐⭐ OL | 2023
Charlie Dickey hosted another Colorado native for the 2023 class in Bates, the No. 40 overall interior lineman, per 247. He’s just below Thomas as the fourth overall recruit from the Centennial State.
Bates holds offers from Oklahoma, Michigan State, Oregon and in-state schools Colorado and Colorado State. The Cowboys have yet to extend an offer.
Jake Hall | OL | 2023
Southlake Carroll (Texas) lineman Jake Hall was in town, as well. He’s yet to have a star ranking. He’s also a former baseball player.
