Instacap: Oklahoma State Dominates TCU in 63-17 Win

On a Big 12 Saturday full of surprise finishes and head-scratching upsets, No. 10 Oklahoma State absolutely dominated TCU, 63-17, to move into a tie for first place in the conference.

With the greatest college running back of all time on hand to witness it, No. 10 Oklahoma State turned in its best ground game performance of the season. The eight rushing scores were the most by the Cowboys since the Massacre of Savannah State in 2012, and second-most in school history. The Cowboys’ 63 points are the most since 2015.

In the shadow of a newly unveiled statue of Barry Sanders, Jaylen Warren did his best GOAT impersonation running tough and fast and pushing the Cowboys to an early lead. And when you have a stout defense like OSU’s, that was enough to set the rout in motion.

The Cowboys’ first drive ended in a turnover when Brennan Presley reeled in a 24-yard catch before the ball was dislodged and recovered the Horned Frogs. Pretty much everything went the Pokes’ way after that.

OSU controlled the line of scrimmage all game and scored at will on the ground. When he had a shot, Spencer Sanders took it and made it count. When he found himself in trouble, he made the right decision and the play.

On a drive early the first quarter, Sanders and Jaylen Warren botched a handoff, but Sanders reeled it in and turned it into a three-yard gain. A couple of plays later the two were out of sync again when Sanders turned to hand it off to his right when Warren went left. Sanders turned that into another positive gain.

Sanders has settled in over the last month-plus. In his last five games, Sanders has 11 touchdowns and just two turnovers. On Saturday, he was sound and slippery, completing 17-of-25 passes for 235 yards and a score and escaping the pocket 10 times for 53 yards. He was exactly what you want from No. 3.

Much like Barry Sanders, Jaylen’s first half totals looked like a nice outing for anyone else. Warren took 14 handoffs for 104 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. He went down early in the third quarter with injury and the Cowboys put him on ice. He finished with 113 yards rushing. In his stead, Dezmon Jackson and then Dominic Richardson both ran it up on the Horned Frogs, adding a pair of rushing TDs each.

Blaine Green was OSU’s leading receiver and he only makes big plays. He caught all three targets for 80 yards and a touchdown. Brennan Presley led OSU with six catches for 61 yards.

Oklahoma State racked up a ridiculous 682 yards of total offense, a Top 10 performance at OSU and the most since Mason Rudolph and Co. ran 747 against Baylor in 2017. The Cowboys’ 37 first downs was good for the second-most in school history.

The Cowboys defense allowed its first touchdown in three weeks in the fourth, with a field full of backups and with the game well in hand. The Pokes held TCU to 2-of-13 on third downs and just 12 total first downs.

Next up, the Cowboys head to Lubbock for their final road game of the season and final trap opportunity before a Bedlam finale in Stillwater. The Red Raiders defeated Iowa State on a walk-off 62-yard field goal to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2017 and knock the Cyclones out of Big 12 contention.
