Team USA Falls to Turkey in Bronze Medal Game at FIBA U19 World Cup
Dailey averaged 21.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per 40 minutes in Hungary.
For the first time since 2011, the United States will return home from a FIBA U19 World Cup without a medal.
Team USA fell to Turkey 84-70 in Sunday’s bronze medal game in Hungary. It marks just the fourth time in the event’s history the Americans didn’t medal. The Americans entered the tournament having won gold in four of the past five U19 World Cups.
Incoming Oklahoma State freshman Eric Dailey Jr. played 20 minutes in the bronze medal game, recording six points, four rebounds, two assists and a block. For the tournament, he averaged 9.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, one steal and one block in 17.9 minutes a game.
Team USA spread its minutes fairly evenly throughout the tournament. On a per 40 minute basis, Dailey averaged 21.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.2 steals and 2.2 blocks a game.
Dailey joins the Cowboys as a four-star prospect from the 2023 class, ranked as highly as the No. 33 player in the country. He chose OSU over offers from Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Florida State, Texas and others.
Dailey and OSU coach Mike Boynton, an assistant for Team USA in Hungary, won’t stay out of Europe long. The Cowboys have a summer exhibition trip to Spain scheduled for August.
