Oklahoma State Quarterback Alan Bowman on Watch List for Allstate Wuerffel Trophy
The award is for off-field contributions.
Oklahoma State’s QB1 Alan Bowman is getting noticed for the good he does off the field, not just on.
Bowman on Thursday was included on the watch list for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy. It’s the second year in a row Bowman has been featured on this watch list.
The award is “college football’s premier award for community service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports,” according to the award’s website. A record 111 players were on the list, including nine quarterbacks and 16 Big 12 athletes. The winner will be announced Dec. 12 during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN. An OSU player has never won the award since it started being awarded in 2005.
According to OSU’s release, Bowman has partnered with Access Scholarships to award a $1,000 “Sack the Stigma” scholarship to a student who recognizes the importance of speaking out about mental health, worked alongside the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health to create awareness about the 988 Oklahoma Mental Health Lifeline, spoken to youth groups in various cities about the importance of mental health and volunteered to help raise funds for Cowboys vs. Cancer. He was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team last year.
On the field, Bowman returns for his seventh college football season and second in Stillwater after transferring from Michigan last year. His career started at Texas Tech. Last season for OSU, Bowman threw for 3,460 yards and 15 touchdowns to receive honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.
A plethora of other Cowboys have also appeared on watch lists this week, including Ollie Gordon for the Maxwell Award, Nick Martin and Collin Oliver for the Nagurski Award, and Joe Michalski and Dalton Cooper for the Outland Trophy.
