LIVE BLOG: Oklahoma State Survives Arkansas 39-31 in Double-Overtime
Live updates as the Cowboys host the Hogs.
LIVE UPDATES
FINAL: Oklahoma State 39, Arkansas 31 (2OT)
No. 16 Oklahoma State defeated Arkansas 39-31 in double overtime off an Ollie Gordon touchdown run and subsequent two-point attempt catch. It was about time they got their best player involved. The Cowboys fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter, being outgained 172-60 (114-8 on the ground). Meanwhile, Arkansas running back Ja’Quinden Jackson racked up 149 yards and three touchdowns while his QB Taylen Green added 61 more. In fact, Gordon’s 12-yard, game-winning TD — his only score of the game — was his first run over more than nine yards.
The Cowboys were still outgained 648-385 and only finished with 59 total rushing yards, but the Razorbacks did plenty to contribute to their own demise. Arkansas committed three turnovers to OSU’s one, and gave up 10 points on those giveaways. Both teams were responsible for their own share of dirty laundry with OSU getting flagged for six penalties for 60 yards while the Hogs had seven for 71. Though one of those called on OSU, should have been credited to Arkansas and would have avoided both overtimes.

This was a strange, messy game that I’m not sure we’ll ever really be able to untangle (or if we’ll want to), but the Cowboys survive and more to 2-0. Next up, the Cowboys head to Tulsa next Saturday for another 11 a.m. kickoff to finish up nonconference play.
Drive Recap (OSU 39, UofA 31): 2OT
After Arkansas linebacker gifted OSU some extra yards with an unsportsmanlike penalty, Ollie Gordon gets into endzone and then picks up two more to give OSU the lead.
Drive Recap (OSU 31, UofA 31): OT
Obi Ezeigbo caps his huge day with a huge sack to push Arkansas back. The Hogs miss the FG.
Drive Recap (OSU 31, UofA 31): OT
A pretty obvious replay shows that OSU’s false start should have been Arkansas’ offsides. Game probably ends on that drive. Instead, Arkansas somehow comes out with a FG as time expires.
Drive Recap (OSU 31, UofA 28): OSU takes the lead.
My brain is scrambled from that last drive, and this game overall, but Logan Ward is a G-A-M and OSU has its first lead of the game.
Drive Recap (OSU 28, UofA 28): That was fast.Â
The Cowboys had no chance time to celebrate. The Hogs answer with a three-play TD drive in just over a minute.
Drive Recap (OSU 28, UofA 21): Just like they planned it.
This drive was a microcosm for this entire wacky game. After Ollie Gordon’s first run over five yards, the Cowboys go to a trick play to fullback Jake Schultz who picks up 63 yards. Then Alan Bowman nearly throws an interception. Then a touchdown is taken back off the board because Josh Ford stepped on the line. Then OSU does score.
Drive Recap (OSU 21, UofA 21): Cowboys get a big stop.
After that recent missed FG, the Hogs go for it on fourth-and-4 on the OSU 23 and they only get three. Cowboys take over on downs. Tie game with 6:45 left.
Drive Recap (OSU 21, UofA 21): What kind of game is this?
The Cowboys turn a short field into their first offensive touchdown of the game and then tie it with a two-point attempt. Even that wasn’t without some drama. A flag for offensive pass interference, which would have been the second to call of a TD, was picked up because Presley caught the ball at the line of scrimmage.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, UofA 21): Or is it?
A muffed punt by Arkansas is recovered by the Pokes give them the ball at the 25.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, UofA 21): Maybe not.
OSU had two potential huge plays that could not be pulled in by the normally sure-handed Rashod Owens and Brennan Presley, respectively. The Cowboys have to punt.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, UofA 21): Luck changing?
After marching down the field, including a couple of third-down conversions to break OSU fans’ hearts, Arkansas missed a 41-yard field goal attempt. OSU gets it back, down eight.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, UofA 21): Better than nothing redux.
The Cowboys (once again) threaten to find the end zone but (once again) get flagged for an offensive penalty and have to settle for 3. Without those flags, OSU would have likely tied it up.
Drive Recap (OSU 10, UofA 21): Another turnover.Â
A second fumble by Arkansas RB La’Quinden Jackson put it on the ground again, but this time the Cowboys recover. OSU is now winning the turnover battle 2-1. So, OSU is now winning something.
But if they capitalize on it, they can be right back in it.
Not great.

Drive Recap (OSU 10, UofA 21): At least they scored again (?).
The Cowboys narrow the deficit but this game is taking years off OSU fans’ lives.
OSU’s offense showed up, moved the ball down the field. Bowman finds Presley in the endzone but an illegal block takes the points off the board. Then a false start on the next play sinks that drive. OSU settles for a field goal. Better than nothing.
Drive Recap (OSU 7, UofA 21): Cowboys get a stop on first drive.
OSU got the stop on Arkansas’s first drive of the second half but get pinned at its own nine-yard line.
HALFTIME: Oklahoma State 7, Arkansas 21
The Bad News: The Cowboys’ defense got gashed and gassed and the offense could barely get out of its own way after a promising first drive ran out of steam. The Cowboys’ best pass rusher appears to be out for the game and there has been little to inspire confidence on either side of the ball, save for a pick-six by Kale Smith.
OSU’s offense has accounted for 77 yards and no points.
By himself, Kale Smith has 74 interception return yards and one touchdown.
Stand aside Travis Hunter, Smith might be his team’s offensive and defensive player of the week.

The Good News: Despite all of that, if OSU can find a way to regroup, it’s still only a two-score game. It could be much worse.
Drive Recap (OSU 7, UofA 21): Can’t get much worse and be this close.
After gaining its first first down of the quarter, OSU turns it over thanks to an Alan Bowman INT.
More bad news.
Collin Oliver will not return for #okstate against Arkansas, according to Cowboy Radio Network.
Giant blow for OSU.

Drive Recap (OSU 7, UofA 21): D forces its own.
The Cowboys force their own three-and-out, maybe out of necessity. Hopefully, OSU’s offense can keep them off the field until halftime. They need to regroup.
Drive Recap (OSU 7, UofA 21): Another three-and-out.
The Cowboys’ drive chart is almost as ugly as its run defense.

Drive Recap (OSU 7, UofA 21): Hogs rolling.
After getting the ball back upon review, Jackson pays it off with his third rushing TD.
Drive Recap (OSU 7, UofA 14): If you can’t stop ’em, take it away from them. (OVERTURNED)
(Never mind, upon review, knee was down. Arkansas gets it back.)
The Cowboys’ defense which has looked mostly inept today, just forced consecutive turnovers. After Kale Smith’s pick-six, Nick Martin forces a fumble.
Drive Recap (OSU 7, UofA 14): Pick 6 for Kale Smith.

Drive Recap (OSU 0, UofA 14): Cowboys stall, punt. Rinse, repeat.
Let’s see if the Cowboys’ defense can figure out how to dig its heels in.
Drive Recap (OSU 0, UofA 14): Hogs Running All Over Pokes
The Cowboys cannot stop the run. More chunk yardage plays. More wide open running lanes. Pokes down two TDs before the second quarter.
Drive Recap (OSU 0, UofA 7): Run Defense Porous
Arkansas takes over in plus territory and wastes no time getting back into scoring position. This time they pay it off with a five-yard Ja’Quinden Jackson TD. For the second straight week, OSU has allowed some disturbing running lanes. In two possessions, Arkansas has 71 rushing yards to OSU’s 5 and is averaging eight yards per attempt.
Arkansas has four plays of 15 or more yards in its opening two drives.

Drive Recap (OSU 0, UofA 0): A quick, deep three-and-out.
The Cowboys were backed up in their own end zone and couldn’t get out of its shadow. After starting 4-for-4, Alan Bowman has missed four straight pass attempts. OSU punts from under its goal post.
Drive Recap (OSU 0, UofA 0): Cowboys Get a Huge Stop
Arkansas took over on downs from its own red zone and flexed is run game to the OSU 27 but Jeff Roberson picked a fine time to record his first career sack, a loss of nine, to put Arkansas out of field goal range. The Razorbacks punted their first football of the season on their first drive in Stillwater.
Drive Recap (OSU 0, UofA 0): Pokes Stall in Red Zone
After marching down the field with seeming ease, the Cowboys ran out of steam at the Arkansas 20-yard line. OSU had a fourth-and-1 but went with a play action pass and it fell short. Hogs take over.
