2025 Center Mekhi Ragland Commits to Oklahoma State
He’s 6-10, 250 and can shoot 3s.
It was another successful official visit weekend for Steve Lutz and his staff.
Mekhi Ragland, a 6-foot-10, 250-pound center from New Jersey, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Tuesday after taking an official visit to Stillwater this past weekend.
“I chose Oklahoma State because me and Coach (James) Miller (OSU’s associate head coach), me and him have known each other for almost two years now,” Ragland told PFB. “When he was at Mississippi State, that’s when he first started recruiting me, and at this point it was just like family with me and him. So I knew from the beginning like wherever he went, I knew I wanted to go because he made me feel welcome.
“And Coach Lutz, he’s your ideal coach. He’s gonna be hard on you. He’s gonna push you because he wants the best for you. But off the court, he’s a great guy, someone you want to be around. So that’s just another appealing factor. And it’s the Big 12. It’s the best basketball league in the country, I would say. That’s where you get the most exposure, so it’s like, why not take that opportunity?”
On3 lists Ragland as the No. 123 player in the 2025 class. The Cowboys were in his top five schools in August alongside Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgia State and DePaul.
Although Ragland is from New Jersey, he most recently played high school ball in Georgia. But he is set to play up I-35 at Sunrise Christian Academy in his senior season. Sunrise is in Bel Aire, Kansas, outside of Wichita. Sunrise Christian has helped develop more than 125 Division-I players since 2010 and four NBA players in that time.
“Mekhi came to us highly recommended and we can’t wait to get to work with him,” said Sunrise coach Kyle Lindsted when Ragland committed to transfer to the program. “He has a natural feel and tools that are incredibly hard to teach. At the same time, we see a ceiling for him here where as he puts in the work he’s going to turn into an even more invaluable player and person to wherever he chooses to attend college beyond his senior year at Sunrise.”
Ragland played AAU this summer with Team Huncho in Adidas’ 3SSB circuit. In 15 games, he averaged 11.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists a game while shooting 60% from the field and was 8-for-18 (44%) from 3 and 24-for-32 (75%) from the foul line. So, he’s a 6-10, 250-pounder with nice touch.
Ragland becomes the second commit in OSU’s 2025 class, joining four-star sharpshooter Ryan Crotty, who committed about a month ago. Lutz and his staff still have some room to work, as well. There are eight scholarship players on OSU’s 2024-25 roster listed as seniors.
Ragland recently had surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot but told PFB he thinks he’ll be back on the court around December.
“(Oklahoma State fans) are getting someone they can rely on,” Ragland said. “I feel like they’re getting someone that’s exciting to watch, exciting to be around, a good person, a welcoming person. And I feel like they’re getting a winner, honestly. I feel like we can really win something, and I feel like we can really go and take it all the way next year with the guys we have.”
