That third-down sack of Aidan O’Connell caused Las Vegas’ first punt of the game after the Raiders started the game off with two straight scoring drives. The 49ers would hold on to win the Week 2 preseason matchup 22-19. Martin’s five tackles tied a team high for the game and give him 10 total in his first two appearances.
Martin has been a tackling machine for a while. Before managing 47 tackles in just five games last season, Martin led the Big 12 with 140 tackles in 2023. Even though his senior season was limited by injury, Martin’s 9.4 takedowns per game would have projected out to the second highest average in the league.
The 49ers selected Martin in the third round of this year’s draft, and, despite an early offseason injury, he came into training camp projected to fight for a starting position at Will linebacker.
