Injury Update as the Cowboys Head to Oregon, Plus an Update on Wendell Gregory’s Availability
‘DeSean (Brown) shouldn’t be available this week.’
STILLWATER — It took only one game to remind Oklahoma State how harsh football can be when it comes to injuries.
Quarterback Hauss Hejny suffered a multi-week injury that required surgery on Friday afternoon, but he isn’t the only Cowboy who will miss this weekend’s trip to No. 7 Oregon (1-0).
“DeSean (Brown) shouldn’t be available this week,” Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said during his Monday press conference. “His is a little bit long-term.”

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Brown played only 12 snaps on Thursday before leaving the game due to injury. He graded out as the team’s eighth-highest defender overall and finished sixth against the run.
Gundy was more optimistic when it came to starting center Kasen Carpenter, who also left the game in the second half.
“I will tell you this about him, it is not a long-term injury,” Gundy said.
The Oklahoma State head coach said he wasn’t sure if running back Rodney Fields Jr. would make the trip this weekend. The redshirt freshman missed the first game due to an undisclosed injury.
He was on the sidelines with the team for the opener. When asked about running back Trent Howland not playing a snap on Thursday, Gundy confirmed that he remains available for the Cowboys, an indication that he has likely simply been passed on the depth chart by the other three guys or perhaps coaches are saving him for particular packages.
Although not known to be dealing with an injury, Gundy also fielded a question concerning outside linebacker Wendell Gregory following an arrest over the weekend.
“We will proceed as normal, and then if something changes, I’ll have (media contact) Sean let you guys know,” Gundy said.
The Oklahoma State coach also took time to address Hejny’s injury, saying he thought the quarterback was doing fine under the circumstances but obviously wished he could be out there.
“I don’t necessarily even think it (his injury) was on that (last) play, so I’m not sure,” Gundy said when asked about the timing of Hejny’s injury during the opener. “I asked the same thing, last time I asked that was yesterday morning, and nobody knew what had even happened. I don’t think he did. I just think he felt it, tried to play a little bit longer and then all of a sudden he said, ‘This feels kind of funny.’ I don’t think it happened on any specific play.”
