OSU Wrestling: Cowboys Beat Arizona State 25-11 in Tempe
OSU moves to 6-1 with a win in the desert.
The Cowboys will return from their first road trip of the season with a pair of wins.
Oklahoma State beat Arizona State 25-11 on Sunday afternoon in Tempe.
Three Cowboys won with bonus points, starting with the night’s opening bout at 157 pounds. No. 2 Landon Robideau beat former Cowboy Chance McLane via a 16-5 major decision. The OSU freshman won with five takedowns and a riding time point.
Alex Facundo also put bonus points on the board for the Pokes when he dispatched Cael Valencia 18-8 at 174 pounds. Valencia is the younger brother of Zahid Valencia, who won two national titles at Arizona State but now wrestles at the Cowboy RTC and won world gold this year.
Facundo wore down the younger Valencia in the opening periods before a four-takedown third to push for the major decision.
Redshirt freshman 197-pounder recorded seven takedowns in his 22-6 technical fall win against Max Acciardi. It was the Cowboys’ most-dominant performance of the night.

OSU led 19-3 after the first five matches, and the Cowboys only loss in that stretch was still an impressive performance.
After winning at 157 pounds in the Air Force dual on Friday, freshman Kody Routledge jumped up to fill in for Dee Lockett at 165 pounds in Tempe.
Routledge squared off with No. 19 Nicco Ruiz. The former Edmond North Husky had three takedowns to Ruiz’s two but dropped the match 10-9. Look out for Routledge in the years to come.
OSU’s other losses came at 133 and 149.
Arizona State transfer Richard Figueroa made the walk against his former team, but fell to talented freshman Kyler Larkin 10-5. Larkin’s older brother, Kaleb Larkin, is ranked No. 4 at 149 pounds. He bested Cutter Sheets via a 19-4 technical fall.
The Cowboys won a pair of ranked matches.
No. 8 Konner Doucet beat No. 23 David Szuba 5-2.
Sergio Vega got a nice welcome in his return to his home state, as the No. 2 141-pounder beat No. 30 Pierson Manville 8-3 in a scramble fest.
The Cowboys have a bit of a break from competition, as their next dual isn’t until Dec. 14 when they travel to Morgantown to wrestle West Virginia. OSU is 6-1 through seven duals in three weekends.
