Shortly after landing their QB, the Cowboys landed their punter.

Former Stephen F. Austin punter — and first-team all-name selection — Lachie Pozzobon will continue his college career in Stillwater. He signed with Oklahoma State, according to a report from 247Sports.

It may not be as sexy of news as the commitment of former UNT quarterback Drew Mestemaker, but it’s a crucial get for Eric Morris and his staff as they continue to plug roster holes. OSU’s starting punter from last season was outgoing senior Wes Pahl. The only other punter on the roster is former UCLA transfer Chase Barry. Barry punted just once last season for the Cowboys after kicking just three punts over three seasons with the Bruins.

In Pozzobon, the Pokes not only get another entry for the depth chart pronunciation guide, they also add an experienced specialist with the ability to control field position with pinpoint accuracy.

Pozzobon punted 53 times for Stephen F. Austin last season, averaging 41.8 yards per attempt. Most importantly, he had zero touchbacks and pinned opposing teams inside their 20-yard line, 13 times (25%) which helped earn him FCS Freshman All-American status. His 41.8 NET rating would have ranked second behind only his predecessor, Wes Pahl, in Big 12 punters with as many tries.

The Melbourne, Australia native honed that accuracy playing Australian rules football growing up. But his first game of 2025 was his first game of American football. He immediately showed he had the goods.

That skill was so critical for the Lumberjacks last year that SFA head coach Colby Carthel called Pozzobon the team’s “best defensive player” according to the The Daily Sentinel. Carthel recalled that the freshman almost wasn’t eligible in time for the Lumberjacks’ season opener against Houston, a 27-0 loss that saw their newest player get plenty of reps. He punted eight times for an average of 43.9 yards, landing one inside the 20-yard line.

OSU Adds a Long Snapper, As Well

The Cowboys didn’t stop there when it came to adding specialists.

SMU transfer long snapper Nolan Akins announce he has committed to OSU. Akins played in two games at SMU in 2025, per PFF.
