Format for Oklahoma State’s Spring Game Announced

The Cowboys aren’t playing a traditional spring game on Saturday, but it looks to be competitive nonetheless.

Oklahoma State released the spring game format. That game, which is set to start at 4 p.m. Saturday in Boone Pickens Stadium, will be offense vs. defense and will involve a point system to determine the winner.

How the Offense Scores

Touchdown = 6 points

PAT = 1 point

2-point conversion = 2 points

Field goal = 3 points

Gain of 25+ yards = 2 points

How the Defense Scores

Forced punt = 4 points

Forced missed field goal = 1 point

Three-and-out = 4 points

Takeaway = 7 points

“Yeah, none of these systems are perfect,” OSU coach Eric Morris told Dave Hunziker. “I’ve done different systems before. So, there will be a scoring system, and obviously we’re a little low on offensive linemen right now. At some point, hopefully next year, we’ll be able to actually split up and draft two teams and make it more of a real spring game where you’ve got two teams that compete against each other for a prize.

“But this time, I think it’ll be more or less a scrimmage, and we’ll have a scoring system where the defense, they force a three-and-out, they’ll get 4 points. There will be different ways that they can score, and it’ll be a way for kids to get out and have fun.”
