Football News: Rob Glass Honored, Russell Okung on the College Football Hall of Fame Ballot
Some football news from the week.
A couple of cool honors relating to the Oklahoma State football program released this week.
Rob Glass to Receive Award
Rob Glass has been named the recipient of the 2026 Merv Johnson Integrity in College Coaching Award, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Football Foundation announced this week.
The award is presented yearly to an esteemed coach from any level in Oklahoma and recognizes them for their outstanding career as a coach, educator and community leader.
OSU’s longtime strength coach, Glass has transitioned to OSU’s assistant athletic director in athlete performance. He’s in his 31st year at OSU. He graduated from OSU in 1984 and has worked with just about the who’s who in OSU athletics — from Barry Sanders, to Robin Ventura, to Ollie Gordon and so on.
Glass was the 1994 NSCA Big Eight Strength Coach of the Year, and along with his work in the college athletics space, he has ran the powerlifting portion of the Special Olympics Oklahoma Summer Games for 25 years.
He’ll be presented the award at the All-Sports and Scholar Athletes Award Ceremony on June 25 at the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.
Russell Okung on College Football Hall of Fame Ballot
On Monday, the National Football Foundation and the College Hall of Fame released a list of 80 players on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame’s 2027 class, and that list includes a Cowboy.
Russell Okung might be the best offensive lineman in OSU’s history, playing as a Cowboy from 2006-09.
Okung was a unanimous All-American as a senior, a year that also saw him win the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year and the Jim Parker Trophy (given to the nation’s best offensive lineman). He was also a finalist for the Outland Trophy (best interior lineman) and a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award (top lineman).
In each of his four seasons, the Cowboys had a 1,000-yard rusher, and Okung made 47 straight starts.
The Seahawks took Okung sixth overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. He’d spend 11 years in the league, playing for Seattle. Denver, the Chargers and Carolina. Okung made two Pro Bowls and has a Super Bowl ring from 2014.
The announcement for who gets voted in to the College Football Hall of Fame will be made in early 2027.
