STILLWATER — It’s not very often a college coach gets to add a free agent midstream, but that happened when the Cowboys picked up Braylin Presley within the past week.
Presley received a court order granting him an extra year of eligibility as part of the 2022 recruiting class.
Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris was asked about Presley on Tuesday. The Cowboys’ coach noted he isn’t a fan of all the moving parts of a roster in the modern era, but as many who wear orange are, he’s a fan of the Presley family.
“He’s a guy that obviously I think really comfortable with his family,” Morris said. “Not for sure, still working through all the eligibility pieces what that looks like on if he’s going to be ready to go when that is. But a guy that’s been here, has been at Tulsa … just a great family and a great kid that we knew what we were getting, right?”
Based on that quote, it doesn’t seem totally clear that Presley is out of the eligibility woods quite yet. He has, though, been added to OSU’s official roster as a 5-foot-6, 170-pound wide receiver who will wear No. 83.
It’s been a rollercoaster for that 2022 recruiting class as to whether they’d be eligible or not — so much so that it’s dragged into the season.
Take quarterback Thomas Castellanos, for example. Shortly before the season started, Castellanos was ruled eligible and joined Texas Tech. Then last week, after he’d already taken part in four games with the Red Raiders, Castellanos was ruled ineligible after another court ruling.
What that means for Presley at OSU could be anyone’s guess at this point.
After starting his career at OSU as a freshman in 2022, Presley transferred to Tulsa, playing in 35 games across three seasons. In his time with the Golden Hurricane, Presley had 336 receiving yards, 215 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns.
Presley was a dynamo of Bixby High School before his college career. He was a four-star recruit in his recruiting class and was a walking highlight reel in all of the Spartans’ games.
With all that said, it’s not going to be easy for Presley to enter halfway through a season and start producing for a team that’s already played four games.
“So we’ll see kind of when we can fit him in, where we can fit him in,” Morris said. “Obviously, extremely hard, and really unfair to the kid, right in the middle of the season bringing him in. You’re throwing him in trying to learn all this new verbiage when everybody’s been doing it for 10 or 11 months now. But was comfortable mainly because of how high of character his family is.”
He joins his younger brother Braeden Presley on OSU’s roster. Braeden is a true freshman safety. Then their older brother Brennan Presley played at OSU from 2020 through 2024. Brennan is the Cowboys’ all-time leader in receptions with 315 and finished his college career with 3,315 receiving yards.
