Oklahoma State Goes Unranked in Preseason Coaches Poll
The 2015 preseason Coaches Poll has been released and Oklahoma State is not in the top 25. This means very little, of course, and is probably actually a benefit to the Pokes.
OSU was never going to be a top 25 team so a perceived slight, however small, is an advantage to a team over being ranked No. 24 or No. 25. Being ranked No. 24 means “hey, we’re ranked!” Being unranked (or No. 28, see below) means “man, we’ve got a chip on our collective shoulder.”
Plus, with the College Football Playoff, none of this actually means anything anyway outside of your perception to the folks on the Playoff committee.
TCU and Miss. St. were unranked last year, so none of this really matters. But what else is there to talk about?

Here’s a look at the top 10 this year:
OSU was third on others receiving votes which means they’re technically the No. 28 team in the country according to coaches who vote on such things. Apparently, Glenn Spencer wasn’t asked for his opinion.
So is this a harbinger for the next four months?
Kyle Fredrickson went back and looked at other preseason rankings for the Pokes.
#OKstate preseason coaches poll ranking though the years:
2015: Unranked
2014: Unranked
2013: No. 14
2012: No. 19
2011: No. 8
2010: Unranked— Kyle Fredrickson (@kylefredrickson) July 30, 2015
The Cowboys finished unranked in 2014, 17th in 2013, unranked in 2012, 3rd in 2011 and 13th in 2010. I’m hoping for more of 2010 season than a 2014 season.
