100 Days of Summer: Get to Know No. 71 Brad Lundblade

The next feature of our summer-long countdown is a mainstay snapper who’s been a constant through Mason Rudolph’s time leading the Cowboy offense.

How he got to OSU

A three-star prospect out of Liberty Christian (Argyle, Texas), Lundblade did not receive an offer from the Cowboys though he was recruited by former OL coach Joe Wickline. He did receive offers from several other schools including Tulsa, Wake Forest and Tulane. Instead, he called OSU and asked Wickline if he could walk on and try to earn his way. The soon-departing assistant obliged and Lundblade headed to Stillwater.

What he’s done in Stillwater

During a rough 2014 season for the Cowboys, Lundblade saw reps as a true freshman along a depleted offensive line. When the Cowboys headed to Waco for a rainy Saturday night game, Lundblade was tabbed to start his first game. He held his own while snapping the ball to another first-time starter and true freshman in Mason Rudolph. The rest, as they say, is history. Lundblade has 27 career starts, and has been the No. 1 every game the last two seasons.

Role in 2017

Lundblade heads into his senior season retaining the starting center job and anchoring what should be an improved offensive line. If OSU is going to reach its potential, Lundblade and Co. will need to take another step forward both in run-blocking and pass protection. They will be without the likes of Blake Jarwin and Zac Veatch who added support up front as cowboy backs the past two seasons.

Noteworthy stats and highlights

Is one of only two offensive linemen to play as true freshman for Mike Gundy. The other was Russell Okung. Has been a huge part of the Cowboys’ running game improvement over the last year. From 2015 to 2016, OSU allowed ten fewer sacks. The last two preseasons, Lundblade has been included on the watch list for the Rimington Trophy for the nation’s top center.
