Recruiting Reset: Taking Stock of OSU’s 2027 Recruiting Class Following Wednesday’s Big Flip

Eric Morris made some waves on the recruiting trail on Wednesday afternoon when the Cowboys were able to flip in-state offensive lineman Odaefe Oruru from Arkansas.

With that news coming out and many high schools around the country getting going this weekend, we thought it was a good time to take a broad look at Oklahoma State’s 2027 recruiting class.

The Class

Rivals and 247Sports are in lock step in naming the Cowboys’ Top 3 commits, but they differ slightly on the order.

Both agree Choctaw linebacker Israel Hammons is the Cowboys’ top prospect in the class, while Rivals lists quarterback Carson White second and Oruru third. 247Sports gives Oruru the No. 2 spot and slots White in behind him.

In the Rankings

The national ranking doesn’t look too great for this class, but Morris warned going into the offseason that with all the transition, they felt a little behind in the cycle.

As of writing, the Cowboys’ 12-man class ranks 77th, per 247Sports, and 67th, according to Rivals. That’s good for a ranking of 14th and 15th, respectively, in the Big 12.

Much of that low ranking comes down to quantity. OSU, Baylor and Arizona State all have a league-low 12 commits. Including those three, the average number of commits per Big 12 team right now is 17.6, as Kansas State (27), West Virginia (24), Iowa State (24), Colorado (20) and Utah (20) all have at least 20 pledges.

When you break the class down on a per-commit average rating, there isn’t a whole lot separating the conference — aside from maybe Texas Tech. Here’s the Big 12 ranking sorted by per-commit average (247):

It looks a lot better for OSU when you break it down like that, but also 15 of the league’s teams fall within 1.48 points of one another.
