On Monday, CBS Sports tabbed Liv McGill as the No. 2 player in the women’s basketball transfer portal. On Tuesday, McGill announced that she’ll be a Cowgirl next season.

A Florida transfer, McGill made the All-SEC First Team as a sophomore this past season after averaging 22.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.6 steals a game.

“Liv is arguably the most exciting player to watch in all of college basketball,” OSU coach Jacie Hoyt said. “She has elite quickness and an unbelievable finishing package around the rim. Liv can score at all three levels, but she is so much more. She has great court vision and can deliver a pass on a dime. Her speed and athleticism allow her to jump passing lanes on the other end of the floor.

“Liv has courage and is not afraid to be herself and is very comfortable in her own skin. She is a leader and I believe she has the talent and heart to take our program to heights it has not reached before.”

Listed at 5-foot-9, McGill scored in double figures in 30 of the 31 games she played in this past season. That included 19 games of 20 or more points and five games in the 30s. She put up 38 on Chattanooga back in November, a game she also had 10 assists, eight rebounds and seven steals in.

McGill had four points-assists double-doubles this past season and had another points-rebounds double-double.

Her outstanding sophomore year came after an equally impressive freshman campaign in Gainesville. She led the Gators in scoring and assists with 16.5 points and 5.2 assists a game. She set the program’s single season scoring record for a freshman, totaling 611 points. That justly earned her a spot on the SEC’s All-Freshman team.

Out of Minneapolis, McGill was a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school. She was the highest-ranked recruit the Gator’s program had landed. She was twice named an Adidas All-American.

Back in 2024, McGill won gold with USA Basketball at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup, where she averaged 3.5 points and 3.3 assists across six games. She was also named to the 2025 USA Women’s U19 National Team.

McGill marks the fourth player Hoyt has landed via the portal thus far this offseason, joining D-II Player of the Year Talexa Weeter, sharpshooter Ellie Brueggemann and former five-star prospect LA Sneed.
