The Cowboys are bringing a former Razorback back to his home state.

AJ Green, a running back from Tulsa Union, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Wednesday after spending the past three seasons at Arkansas, where he carried 201 times for 953 yards and six touchdowns in the SEC. Green was a four-star recruit in the 2021 recruiting class. Listed as the No. 190 player in the 247Sports Composite rankings, he initially chose Arkansas over offers from OSU, OU, Texas, LSU, Texas A&M and others. Green had initially committed to Tulsa out of the portal before decommitting from the Golden Hurricane on Monday. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Green ran for 1,325 yards and 19 touchdowns as a high school senior at Union. He ran a wind-aided 10.38 100-meter dash on the track as a high school freshman.

He stepped onto campus in Fayetteville and made an immediate impact, running for 227 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman. He also caught seven passes for 84 yards and another score that year. His best game as a freshman came in a win against Texas, where Green carried seven times for 67 yards and his score.

His workload increased as a sophomore, running for 414 yards and three touchdowns. Against Kansas in the Liberty Bowl, Green carried 13 times for 101 yards and a score in the Razorback win.

This past season, Green was Arkansas’ second-leading rusher behind quarterback KJ Jefferson. Green ran for 312 yards and two touchdowns. His best game of the year came in a loss to BYU, in which Green ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

Green entered the transfer portal on Dec. 4.

He joins a running back room that reigning Doak Walker winner Ollie Gordon will head in 2024. With Jaden Nixon entering the transfer portal this offseason, the only other returning scholarship running back the Cowboys have is Sesi Vailahi, who ran for 27 yards on six carries as a true freshman. The Cowboys also signed two high school backs in Rodney Fields Jr. and Jaden Allen-Hendrix.

Green becomes the fifth portal commitment the Cowboys have picked up this cycle, joining safety Kobe Hylton (UTEP), offensive lineman Isaia Glass (Arizona State), tight end Tyler Foster (Ohio) and defensive lineman Obi Ezeigbo (Gannon).

OSU fans will also now have to distinguish their AJ Greens, as OSU had a corner with the same name from 2016 to 2019.
