Baker Mayfield Talks Mullet vs. Fu Manchu, Says Saturday Will Be ‘Rated R’

In 2015, Oklahoma State clearly did not know what it was getting into with Baker Mayfield and the two-headed RB monster that torched the Pokes on their own turf in Stillwater for the Big 12 title.

Mayfield and his QB brethren rocked fu manchus for the game, and he declared “we’re the real outlaws, there’s a new sheriff in town” a year after OSU had upset OU in Norman.

They almost got then-offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley to do the same.

“They didn’t tell me they were going to do it, and they did,” Riley said at the time. “So they came in, and I had a beard going from the other game and they were trying to get me to do the same thing.”

“Wednesday night, I get in there to shave and I start trimming my beard off and I’m like, you know what, I’m going to do it and take a picture and send it to them. So I’m getting ready, I’m shaving and I’m leaving it. And I think, you know what, in the world of Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook — no way, so I got rid of it.”

Probably for the best. Anyway, Mayfield upped the antics last year in Norman with a back-to-back champs shirt worn under his pads before, you know, OU had actually wrapped up the championship. He rocked the facial hair again.

Last Saturday, after OU thumped Texas Tech, Mayfield was asked about what it means for Bedlam to be played in November this year.

“Just means the mustache is coming out earlier,” he said.

Then on Monday Mayfield was asked about Gundy’s mullet, and things really started picking up.

“I respect it. Gotta respect the mullet, he said. “Business in the front, party in the back. The mustache has to show up on Saturday. It will be a battle of who has the best mullet or mustache.”

Put this game in my veins!

Mayfield of course has long talked about what he expects from Oklahoma State fans — “I expect mugshots to be everywhere” — and he doubled down on that notion on Monday.

“Now that it’s been announced GameDay, I would not surprised if some of the signs were pretty funny. It’s going to be probably rated R on Saturday. It’s going to be a great atmosphere. When you’re talking about having GameDay there, and then just in the stadium. It’s the only stadium in the country they’re that close to you on the sidelines. Even closer than ours.

“They’re right on top of you with the paddles, they get that going. We love going on the road into somebody’s house, but just having that hostile environment is even better.”
