The college football seasons clash with the COVID-19 pandemic took another step Wednesday.

The Big 12 announced that its media days would be moved from July 20 and 21 to Aug. 3. The media days were already set to be virtual.

“As everyone is aware, our head coaches and student-athletes have not been able to collectively engage in organized team functions since athletics activities were suspended in March,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said in a statement. “We felt it was prudent to give coaches a chance to re-acclimate with their teams prior to participating in our annual season preview event.”

The Big 12’s decision to move what many see as the kickoff to it truly being football season comes after the Big Ten and Pac-12 have announced they will already pursue a conference-only football season. The Big 12 hasn’t taken that step yet, but things have been changing quickly.

Oklahoma State was set to start its season Sept. 3 against Oregon State, but that game isn’t happening with the Pac-12’s decision. The Cowboys’ are (for now) set to start the 2020 season against Tulsa on Sept. 12.
