Big 12 Update: OU Survies Army, Texas Upsets TCU, Kansas ‘Streak’ Snapped

Looking around the league after a strange Week 4 in the Big 12.

Take everything you thought you knew about the Big 12 through the first three weeks and throw it out the window.

Think Oklahoma State was a sleeper for the Big 12? Nope. Did you think TCU was pretty good and Texas was bad? Not looking like it. Did you think Kansas had a shot of being slightly mediocre this season? Not a chance.

Here’s recap from the Week 4 Big 12 games.

No. 5 Oklahoma 28, Army 21

It took overtime for Oklahoma to beat Army in Norman. What is this, 1945?

On it’s last drive of regulation, Army ate up about 10 minutes of clock and got on the edge of field goal range before quarterback Kelvin Hopkins threw his first interception of the night.

Army’s hope seemed lost as OU drove to the Army 16 before Sooners’ kicker Austin Seibert missed a 33-yard field goal sending the game into overtime, where OU scored on its first possession and Hopkins threw another interception on fourth-and-7 to end the game.

Kenneth Murray had an OU record 28 tackles, but perhaps his coolest moment came after.

No. 12 West Virginia 35, Kansas State 6

Hey, this went as expected.

K-State’s offense drives the struggle bus. The Wildcats again used both Skylar Thompson and Alex Delton, who combined for 227 passing yards and no touchdowns. K-State also ran for a walloping 91 yards on 36 carries.

Heisman hopeful Will Grier had 356 yards and five touchdowns, but also had two picks.

David Sills had three touchdowns on 10 receptions.

Texas 31, No. 17 TCU 16

Is Texas good?

Sam Ehlinger threw for 255 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Freshman Caden Sterns, younger brother of former OSU safety Jordan Sterns, had two interceptions. One of which was TCU paying it forward as wide receiver KaVontae Turpin threw the pass. TCU quarterback Shawn Robinson has picked twice and had only 197 yards.

If anything, the Longhorns might have a pretty good defense. Texas has a good shot at continuing its win streak, playing K-State next week.

Iowa State 26, Akron 13

There’s not much to say about this one.

The Cyclones played fine, but beating Akron by 13 isn’t something to go crazy about.

Hakeem Butler brought in another receiving touchdown while David Montgomery ran for 107 yards and a score.

Baylor 26, Kansas 7

The Bears put a stop to the Kansas hype train.

Baylor’s defense held Pooka Williams Jr. to 89 yards, 72 of which came from one carry.

The Jayhawks used three quarterbacks Saturday, with senior Peyton Bender getting the majority of the work and throwing for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer had a nice game, throwing for 221 yards and three touchdowns.

Perhaps the most impressive stat was that the game was fairly clean, as neither Kansas nor Baylor had a turnover.
