Cameron McGriff Makes #SCTop10 For Posterizing Dunk vs. South Carolina
McGriff landed on ESPN after jamming hard vs. the Gamecocks.
Coming into Saturday, veteran Cameron McGriff knew OSU’s test against SEC upstart South Carolina was going to be tough and exhausting, both mentally and physically. But Friday before practice, he quietly displayed confidence to teammates that he was ready to embrace the challenge head on.
“I remember yesterday, Thomas was talking to him about how physical he was going to be, and all Cam said was, ‘You’re going to see a different beast tomorrow,” and just walked off,” Lindy Waters said Saturday after the Cowboys knocked off the Gamecocks 74-70 in Stillwater.
A different beast, indeed. McGriff was all over the place for OSU. In 30 minutes of action, he had 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 blocks and scored 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting. In an all-around showing, it was his electrifying dunk over poor Felipe Haase that most will remember, which landed him at No. 6 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays from Saturday night.
OSU needed all McGriff could offer to escape with a very nice win, made all the more impressive by the fact that OSU had seven healthy scholarship players by tip. Perhaps McGriff’s monstrous showing will be a sign of a more confident version of himself moving forward, because OSU is going to need him.
“He stepped up big time,” Waters said of McGriff. “He came in and he proved it so we just need to keep it going.”
