Can Oklahoma State Find a Run Game in Lubbock?

I suggested to Carson on the podcast on Tuesday that OSU just scrap its run game and throw it to run it like Tah-may B. and the Pats do it in the NFL. That’s probably a bit of a stretch because Mason ain’t Tah-may, and OSU is actually doing some good stuff with misdirection right now.

Stuff that Mike Yurcich said was violating the eyes of Big 12 linebackers. Well then.

And you know what? Playing Texas Tech might be the perfect elixir for an elevation in the rushing department? Why is that? Well, there aren’t many teams worse at defending the run than Texas Tech.

Tech is currently 124th in the country in run defense per carry. They allow 5.99 yards. They’re the worst Power 5 team by almost .7 yards per carry!

“Same ol’, same ol’,” said defensive coordinator David Gibbs. “Oklahoma entered our game averaging 3.8 yards a carry and left averaging — I guess they averaged 7 yards a carry against us. Oklahoma State averages 3.8, so those 3.8 really doesn’t matter as long as they’re running the ball when they want to run it.

“They’re explosive. Their running backs are good, quarterback is a good player, wide outs are just like every other team’s wide outs we play: Big, tall and fast.”

Coach Bro (Kliff Kingsbury) agreed with the explosive part./

“Really good wide receiving group. The quarterback is a good thrower of the football. They mix in Walsh, who’s an outstanding athlete to run down there on the right area, and good running backs. They have a good scheme. They mix it up. They’ve been good on offense for a lot of years and do a great job of keeping you off balance.”

I actually agree and think OSU’s offense is a little undervalued right now. I’m hoping it’s more like a lot undervalued come November.
