Just hours after the Cowboys made the final group for four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Robinson, they made the cut for a talented four-star defensive back.

Jaylon Braxton, a fast-rising DB out of Texas released his Top 8 on Tuesday, and the Pokes were on it.

Along with OSU, Braxton is still considering Baylor, TCU, Nebraska, Arkansas, Cal, Penn State and Michigan State. Of those finalists, the Cowboys came calling behind only the Bears and TCU this past winter. He visited Stillwater for an unofficial visit in September.

Braxton is the No. 314 prospect in the 2023 class per 247Sports Composite ranking and the No. 32 cornerback. 247Sports’ own ranking regards him as the No. 207 recruit and No. 21 CB.

So what’s all the hype about?

Braxton measures in at 5-foot-11.5 and 170 pounds, according to 247, but it’s his abilities as a two-way player and special teams threat that has coaches the most excited. He plays both cornerback and wide receiver for Lone Star High School (Frisco, Texas) and returns kicks. He also competes in track and field in the 100 meters and 200 meters. A peek at his junior season highlights shows that he also excels in the 100-yard dash.

OSU currently has seven scholarships accounted for in the 2023 cycle with only one defensive back, Kam Franklin out of Louisiana. With his Composite ranking of 0.8974, Braxton would be the Cowboys’ highest-rated pledge if he were to commit today. He would also raise the Pokes’ projected team score from 89.66 to 106.33. That would make for a jump in the rankings from 32nd to 22nd, as of writing. We can surmise that his planned commitment date is just over a month away with the date July 9, 2022 listed on his tweet.

Braxton hails from the same high school as current Cowboy QB Garret Rangel and OSU running back Jaden Nixon. His brother, Braylin Braxton is a quarterback at Tulsa.
