OSU Bullets

• Pulling from voices within the program, here’s a solid summary of thoughts PFB has been able to gather concerning the QB race.

Multiple sources told me that (Spencer) Sanders has been galloping over the last few weeks. Literally and figuratively. While Gundy has noted that they’re very similar quarterbacks, it seems that (Dru) Brown can keep plays alive with his feet while Sanders can get them to the house. There’s an electricity to Sanders that could be the difference, and the scenario for him taking the reins heading into Austin is about as perfect as he could ask for.

Right now, though, after talking to several folks, it seems that Brown is maybe a half-beat quicker on some of his reads and more experienced (obviously) in how he handles the team. [PFB]

It’s pretty much putting flesh on two arguments: how Sanders’ ceiling is higher than Brown’s and what it looks like for Brown to be a better choice as well.

• Teams in the Big 12 know each other well – what they like to do, how they work an advantage on you by doing what they do best. Is Mike Gundy trying to work around that with his most recent coordinator hire?

So, how does (Sean Gleeson) coach? And more specifically, is Gleeson as quirky a play caller as he seemed to be at Princeton, where his offense led all of FCS in scoring, averaging 47 points per game?

The answer, naturally, will have to wait. For now, it’s a secret. A secret well-kept, perhaps, strategically speaking. And for a change, the unknown figures to serve the Pokes well. [GoPokes]

Gleeson will be using the Cowboys’ system, terminology and (most of) the same players from last year. But changing quarterbacks and changing coordinators will add some wrinkles to keep teams on their toes this fall.

• I was caught off guard by what’s considered the strength of the Oklahoma State offensive line.

While the two teams below OK State did a solid job protecting their quarterback but struggling in the run game, Oklahoma State was just the opposite of that last season. They didn’t do a good job protecting their quarterback but were fantastic in the run game last season as Justice Hill and Chuba Hubbard shredded defenses on the ground.  [HCS]

Under Wickline, Oklahoma State could run the ball and they kept their QBs squeaky clean. I guess I’d just assigned the value in the running game to the NFL running back and didn’t give the appropriate credit to the line that’s cleared the way for him.

• It’s fun to see where all of the OSU transfers (who left OSU) are playing this year

• I agree with this take that OSU has to find a QB and fix the defense to get into the top tier – I think they fix one of those two problems by getting above average QB play, see subtle improvement defensively, and finish in the upper middle of the pack.

• Love Cam McGriff – honestly can’t tell a difference in build here. In reality, McGriff looked like a grown man when he got here. Love the jersey upgrade!

Non-OSU Bullets

• Fantastic faith-based read on humility, a lost art in 2019 – I highly recommend for those inclined

• Crazy to think that the Thunder is now a solid three-point team – they feel a bit Spursy with an older savvy point guard, an offensive fulcrum at the four, and a foreign center

• Fascinated by this rookie running back in Dallas
