Daily Bullets (August 10) – The Rudolph Plan, Glowing Washington Reports, The Other OSU’s Big Decision
Spencer Sanders = Silver Lining
The Mason Rudolph freshman year-model may be put into place if necessary.
The Cowboys are looking at laughers in their first two weeks. Moreover, the first three conference matchups include two of the Big 12’s weakest teams, Kansas and Texas Tech, and a home date with Iowa State.
That stretch gives OSU a chance to build up a puffy record through the middle of October, but the back half of the year is a bear, including road trips in four of six games. If the Cowboys start to crumble late in the season, freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders could take over and help the program get a head start on 2019. [Athlon Sports]
Trying out Sanders early in the season seems wise but don’t use up enough games eliminating the potential for a late-season surge if the quarterback play drops. I always hope the Pokes can figure out quarterback situations on the even years.
Valuing James Washington
It’s easy to get caught up in what Oklahoma State outlets are saying about James Washington’s short time in the pros. But listening to an unbiased third party is worth considering and being appropriately excited about.
A big-play machine in college, Washington had over 1,000 yards and at least 10 touchdowns in each of three years. The Steelers drafted him based on those numbers, but it’s his potential and quick adoption of the Pittsburgh offense that’s put him in position to seamlessly replace Martavis Bryant.
His training camp has been a consistent highlight reel of great catches, though Ben Roethlisberger warned not to get too excited because Washington is still making mistakes. Whatever, Ben! Washington could be a fun bye-week replacement to stash, but he’s not expected to assume a major role that helps him become a weekly Fantasy starter. [CBS Sports]
While the nature of the writing is about Washington’s fantasy football potential, the idea that he’s adapting quickly and making plays are unquestionably positive.
OSU and NCAA Notes
The Ohio State decision on Urban Meyer will speak volumes about college football….Bill Snyder doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon (just signed an extension into the 2020’s)….Could you imagine playing an entire season with a torn labrum? Marcus Keyes did. I couldn’t do my office job with a torn labrum….CRFF caught up with former Cowboy Tavarius Shine….CBS takes a shot at post-season play for 2018 college football (I’d enjoy the Cowboys’ projected bowl game)

This may be the biggest change in the Gundy era: winning on the road. That 2008 Mizzou game felt like the biggest gorilla off the shoulders.

Count me in for a listen.
Oklahoma State gave up 10 scores (TDs & FGs) inside last 2 minutes of 1st half and 4th Q in 2017. Next week we talk about a factor of the new defense that isn’t being discussed, that will cut this number in half. #gopokes #okstate
