Daily Bullets (June 15): Cowgirls Round Out Their Pitching Circle, Fun Brands for OSU’s Field Rights

Thanks for stopping by – here’s your daily dose of Oklahoma State sports news.
Three Thoughts
• Cowgirls are at it again – assembling another excellent pair of pitchers. It’s amazing the work this group is doing:
(RyLee) Crandall is the second big name that Oklahoma State softball has landed since the end of the 2024 season, with Washington pitcher Ruby Meylan also announcing her commitment to the Pokes on June 6.
• It’s kind of a bummer that competing for recruits is the most competitive OSU and OU Football will be for the next year (PFB)
• Enjoyed this fun little list of potential brands to go on the OSU field – what would you put on there? My answer is BP Capital with a h/t to Mr. Pickens (O’Colly)
Two Quotes
• Love seeing how quickly Kenny Gajewski got after his incoming ace in the transfer portal:
“Our team kind of broke apart,” Meylan told me during a phone interview, “and a lot of girls decided to leave. I was like, ‘OK, it’s probably in my best interest (to leave, too).'” (Ruby) Meylan heard from OSU coach Kenny Gajewski less than 15 minutes after her name hit the portal.

• Bummer here – Rickie Fowler and Viktor Hovland missed the cut at Pinehurst:
World No. 5 Viktor Hovland is the highest-ranked player in the world to be missing from the weekend tee sheet. After contending at the PGA Championship, the Norwegian appeared prime to continue his run of form into the U.S. Open.
Hovland got punched in the face immediately on Thursday opening with an 8-over 78 which proved too much to overcome for the reigning FedEx Cup champion. Hovland battled back with a second-round 68 and did well to threaten the cutline, but a couple late bogeys put Hovland at 6 over.
One Question
• A couple of these guys landed on Southwest Airlines for their preferred Big 12 “naming” sponsor – who would you name the Big 12 after?
It sounds like “Allstate” (insurance) is the early favorite if a deal is to be done.
Here are a few I had way too much thinking of:
The Devon Dozen, Tesla 12, Love’s Travel Stops and Country Conference, No QuikTrips Conference, Pepsi 16, Energy Transfer 16 Limited Partners. Naming for divisions could be a fun option too.
Non-OSU Bullets
• The high school teacher playing in the US Open
• 53 places to camp in the US
Winners are losers who tried one more time after failing, continued when others told them to give up, and believed it could work before there was any good reason to.
