OSU Bullets

• Something that gives hope for a successful appeal is this – the time must fit the crime.

In the hours after the NCAA’s ruling came down, (consultant Chuck) Smrt began digging for past cases that were similar to OSU’s.

“Most of the cases that had similar penalties, it appeared from reading the summaries that there was an attempt or there was a gain for competitive or recruiting advantage,” he said.

“You did not see that here.” [NewsOK]

The above tells you the precedent that’s been set is to take the heat down a notch from what was levied against the Pokes.

If the NCAA upholds, they’re working to establish a different one: one that punishes a school not for how they benefitted but for hiring a bad egg.

Here’s the rare piece insinuating that OSU is getting what they deserve – clearly, a view being expressed to herald a counterpoint

The Pokes landed two football commitments over the weekend – a receiver prospect from Norman and an athlete commitment from Midwest City.

An interesting observation here – all but one of the commits are multi-sport athletes.

This is something to love about Mike Boynton – this would clearly be high time to hedge expectations and politic for your job. The guy goes straight to how this would impact those he’s leading and expresses care and concern for them.

It’d be hard to find a parent who didn’t want their son to play for Mike Boynton.

• Good news – two of OSU’s basketball commits have decided to honor their commitments

• This is a good piece to provide context on who Lamont Evans is (the coach who got OSU into this mess)

Non-OSU Bullets

• This was fun – the most searched for food (how to cook it) in each state
• Some faith-based comments but this commentary on how the west is adapting an eastern-concept (shaming culture) is super interesting
• Finished this faith-based classic(?) over the weekend, really good.
