Daily Bullets (Nov 16) – Gundy Coaching to Win, Boynton Season is Here
Playing to Win
Something of a trend is forming for Gundy’s Cowboys in Bedlam games – they’re coaching and playing to win.
We won’t be able to blame Gundy’s lopsided (Bedlam record) on his shrinking to the occasion. That narrative, a convenient one through the 2016 game, has been blown to bits by his quarterbacks’ passing numbers since Mason Rudolph didn’t throw downfield in the ’16 drizzle.
Rudolph in 2017: 28-of-54 for 448 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.
Cornelius Saturday: 34-of-53 for 501 yards, three touchdowns and no picks.
It isn’t just that Gundy went for 2 in Saturday’s waning moments. Or that both of Tyron Johnson’s fourth-quarter touchdowns in 2017 Bedlam were directly preceded by fourth-down conversions.
Gundy isn’t letting that hair of his hang late against Sooners, but rather over the course of all four hours. That’s such a welcome sign for both the coach’s sake and the rivalry’s. [TulsaWorld]
I’m nearly ready to stop talking about Bedlam but I’ve been chicken soup’ing my soul with the good things and the above reality was certainly one of them. Regardless of talent levels, it feels like OSU will have a chance playing and coaching like that.
Boynton Season
With the third game of the year coming up Sunday, Mike Boynton continues to fit Stillwater like an old glove.
“Whether people were happy or sad, it was, ‘Who is this guy?’” Boynton said. “And now, I feel like people have a feel for who I am as a person, the type of coach that I am to the players, the type of citizen I am. This is a place, this is a city, this is an area where that’s valued, and being a good person who works hard and doesn’t feel like he’s above anyone else, I think, carries a lot of weight.” [NewsOK]
Brooklyn boy-turned-Payne County Pilgrim has all the right qualities to be embraced culturally by the Cowboy fan base. While his personality and the way he carries himself gives Cowboy Basketball such a likable character, I can’t wait to see the 2019 class on the floor.
OSU and NCAA Notes
Solid look at next year’s depth chart with senior day upon us….Justice Hill isn’t celebrating senior day (as a junior), Jordan Brailford unsure….See who of ESPN’s crew picked the Cowboys today….On why Mike Leach’s team has been so good this year – his veteran QB
Not just great at contested catches – great at moving the chains. Can’t imagine how many of those were a part of the 39 first down effort against OU.

There are other open jobs but KU could have a hand in this Les deal getting settled.

Keep an eye out for Marcell Ateman tomorrow.
Here's a video montage of WR Marcell Ateman at practice today. Ateman can make his NFL debut this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

I think a lot of us would get Breckyn Hager’d messing with Tyron.
