Daily Bullets (Oct. 19): Pokes Lose Heartbreaker in the Mountains

Thanks for stopping by – here’s your daily dose of Oklahoma State sports news.

Football: BYU 38, Pokes 35

Three Thoughts

Road loss to an undefeated BYU squad? Expected. That inspired play from the Cowboy offense was delightful. (PFB)

Ollie Gordon turned back the clock a year, Garrett Rangel looked like Clint Chelf, Alan Bowman pitched a solid  game in relief and appeared to do enough to get it done. Tough times but infinitely more encouraging than anything wearing an Oklahoma State jersey over the last month.

• Pokes were down so much last night – Zane Flores didn’t travel (likely out for the rest of the way), Garrett Rangel will be “out for a while” after his best half of football in an OSU jersey,  and yet another impact defensive player in Trey Rucker wasn’t available (along with Dylan Smith) (PFB + X)

• We could stare at the poor tackling on the final defensive drive for BYU but it’s way more fun to dwell on that beautiful 8.5 minute drive that put the Pokes in position to win it:

OSU quarterback Alan Bowman, playing only because starter Garret Rangel was lost to injury, guided one of the best drives of his career, taking the Pokes 76 yards in 17 plays, hitting Presley for the TD that put OSU on top 35-31 with 1:13 to play.

Two Quotes

• What a wonderful surprise to see the Cowboy rushing attack back last night (269 yards rushing). Unfortunately, this is a factual statement on the other side of the ball:

• Is there a better helmet situation you could imagine for the Pokes?

One Question

• Always a fun one to ponder – who’s on your OSU athletics Mt. Rushmore?

Non-OSU Bullets

• The top Halloween costumes of 2024 (per Google)

• We groan for home (faith-based)
