Daily Bullets (Oct 19) – Pros and Cons for the Second Half of 2019 Season, Recruiting Brothers

Hey Bro

When thinking about younger brothers of OSU players, your mind probably drifts towards Dax Hill, Caden Sterns, Logan Rudolph. How does a big brother handle his younger brother being recruited by his team?

From the perspective of the big brother, they know how recruiting works, and they understand the value of finding a school that fits your goals, desires and personality.

With that knowledge, older brothers don’t get too pushy.

Justice Hill admitted that he would make his occasional OSU pitches to Dax, but Justice didn’t go crazy with it.

In the case of the Hills, it didn’t work out for OSU. But Cole Waltersheid and Devin Harper used similar tactics and their brothers — defensive end Kody Waltersheid and cornerback Thomas Harper — picked the Pokes.

“I didn’t get too involved,” Cole Waltersheid said. “I told him from the beginning, ‘You’re gonna have all these schools talk to you. Oklahoma State’s gonna talk to you. You can do whatever you want to do. I’m not gonna make any decisions for you.’ [NewsOK]

Just confirming that Justice did recruit Dax was sort of a warm blanket in the little brother conversation (not to mention Dax not going to OU). But you couldn’t imagine the conversation going the other way (“come here or else!”) and it being a positive situation for anybody.

Pros and Cons

When considering the pros and cons of watching the Pokes play (who am I kidding, all of us can’t quit ourselves at this point), there’s some good and some bad to consider. First, the good.

Consider this: You (probably!) have just two more opportunities to watch Justice Hill carry the football in Boone Pickens Stadium. This was our No. 1 storyline going into the season, and it remains near the top. The bummer for me is that it’s seemingly going down like Joe Randle’s last year did in 2012 when an elite, All-American back was mired in a below-average situation and exited with little of the fanfare that he deserved. Two more home games for Justice Hill. How fast is the passage of time? [PFB]

…and the bad: the defensive statistics, namely points per drive.

For those wondering … in (Glenn) Spencer’s worst year, OSU gave up 2.25 points per drive and finished No. 79 in the country. They’re currently giving up 2.44 and ranked No. 89 in the country.

With the three best Big 12 teams on deck. [PFB]

OSU and NCAA Notes

New Big 12 Football narrative: Bash Bros vs. Raid Bros….College football’s most important week eight games….TheRinger gave out mid-season college football awards (of sorts)….If you live in (or near) Tulsa, this movie on Big Country would definitely be worth checking out….Fascinating to see how Oregon rebuilt their offense CC: Josh Henson….Three questions on 2019 Cowboy Football recruiting

Oregon State’s a dud but the others are compelling (IMO).

This would just be incredible – just play once a year and call it Orange Peel or something.

This probably doesn’t convince me to subscribe but a Big 12 channel is fun.

Smart with some sweet kicks to honor his mother who recently passed.
