Daily Bullets (Oct. 8): Frosh QB’s Thriving, How to Fix OSU and Mike Stoops Out
Happy Monday. Here are your bullets … fresh out of the oven!
Freshman QB killers
Amazing that all these freshman quarterbacks continue to torch OSU’s defense, while OSU’s own highly-touted freshman signal-caller remains buried on the depth chart.
In back-to-back Big 12 home losses to Texas Tech and Iowa State, the Cowboys secondary was cut to pieces by freshman quarterbacks. Texas Tech’s Alan Bowman burned the Cowboys for nearly 400 passing yards. Iowa State’s Brock Purdy did not start on Saturday, but he was sent to the field for the Cyclones’ second possession and proceeded to dominate the game. Purdy passed for four touchdowns and also ran for a 29-yard TD. [Tulsa World]
Answering the tough questions
Oklahoma State is one of the most penalized teams in all of college football. And Saturday was a prime example of how to be undisciplined. So how does OSU fix it?
The million dollar question.
Here’s the looming question: Can discipline be improved, particularly when a team is halfway through the season? Or, is it more likely that after six games of discipline issues, OSU is beginning to define itself as an undisciplined team?
“Those things keep me up at night,” Gundy said. “When you make mistakes by not being disciplined and structured, those things wear on me, because that really falls on my shoulders right now.”
In Saturday’s 48-42 loss, the discipline issues showed themselves in personal foul penalties by the defense, an uncharacteristically high number of false starts by the offense and instances of poor execution in all phases. [NewsOK]

This is … something. It was confirmed elsewhere on Sunday night. So now OU needs a new DC.
TFB contributor, James Hale (@jhale24) has learned via a source that #Sooners coach, Mike Stoops is out as defensive coordinator.
