The Cowboys suffered their own harrowing home defeat, the second in as many tries, and for their losing effort were flushed out of the top 25 in both the AP and Coaches polls.

Several Big 12 teams were on the move, as well. Oklahoma dropped from No. 7 in the AP and No. 5 in the Coaches to No. 11 in both after an unsuccessful comeback attempt against Texas in the Red River Shootout. With that, Texas moved up to No. 9 in the AP and 14 in the Coaches. West Virginia (No. 9/No. 8) climbed to No. 6 in both polls after earning the win over Kansas.

Oklahoma State wasn’t the only AP top 25 team knocked off by an unranked opponent in Week 6. No. 8 Auburn fell to unranked Mississippi State 23-9, No. 13 Kentucky lost to Texas A&M 20-14, No. 14 Stanford got buried 40-21 by Utah and No. 20 Michigan State lost to Northwestern 29-19.

The Cowboys head to Manhattan on Saturday to meet an ailing 2-4 Kansas State team looking for its first conference win.
