The Evolution of Flowers

Good stuff here on how No. 31 has tried to slide into Jordan Sterns’ old role.

In the offseason, he added eight pounds of muscle to his long frame, picked the brains of fellow free safeties and spent hours in the film room studying the trade of playing downhill.

“The position is a little more instinctive, that’s what Sterns used to tell me,” he said. “We went back and forth learning each other’s spots, and we did it just in case anyone went down. It’s just about trusting your instincts more at free safety.”

That work has allowed Flowers to not only be one of the top tacklers in the Big 12, but still be effective in coverage, as evidenced by his two interceptions and five pass breakups, which lead the secondary. [Tulsa World]

I love Flowers. That Sterns-Flowers secondary duo might have been my favorite in school history (other than Gilbert-anyone).

Israel Picks Sunday

Milwood DT Israel Antwine is picking between Colorado and Oklahoma State on Sunday. Adan Kemp wrote an awesome piece on him today. The kicker? He has autism.

As Israel got older, the need for an outlet for his physicality became more apparent to Dwayne. Israel fought back when picked on and that often meant Dwayne paying for a few dentist bills or doctor visits.

“When he retaliates in a situation, it never looks just,” Dwayne says. “He’s so much bigger and stronger than everyone else that it was dangerous sometimes.”  [NewsOK]

OSU and NCAA News

Oklahoma State is ready for Baylor’s four RBs … Markel Brown got cut from the Thunder… Berry Tramel’s travel blogs remain the best … Homecoming and Hoops is tonight, and despite the hoops part, everyone seems excited … Urb doesn’t like night road games(welcome to the club).

Whoa.

Lamont Evans is out of jail.

There have been some really fun OSU-Baylor games in Stillwater.

This is impressive.

Still so good.
