That didn’t take long.

It took Dezmon Jackson all of one start to wrack up a Big 12 award.

Jackson was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Week following his 235-yard, three-touchdown performance in Oklahoma State’s 50-44 victory against Texas Tech.

“Dez competed and ran well,” Mike Gundy said on Saturday. “He looked good out there once he settled in; it looked like he saw some of the cuts really well. I would’ve preferred he hang on to the ball late in the fourth quarter, but overall I was proud of the way he competed.”

Entering Saturday’s game, Jackson had only 135 rushing yards at the Division-I level. Replacing an injured Chuba Hubbard and LD Brown, Jackson toted the rock 36 times. That’s double the amount of carries he had all season before that.

Jackson also caught two passes for 10 yards Saturday.

OSU safety Tre Sterling probably got snubbed as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week. That likely happened because he was on a defense that gave up 44 points. Regardless, Sterling had a stellar day, recording nine total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and an interception he ran back for a touchdown.

Iowa State’s Latrell Bankston took home the defensive honor after recording five tackles and two sacks in the Cyclones’ win against Texas.
