Before the Presleys, there were the Woods. Just a few weeks ago, a Presley returned to the football team, and now a Woods is headed back to OSU Athletics in a development role.
Oklahoma State on Wednesday announced that Donovan Woods has rejoined OSU Athletics as the Associate Athletic Director of Development for the OSU Foundation, where he will “focus on cultivating and stewarding athletic support for the institution.”
Woods had worked with the OSU Foundation for more than a dozen years, primarily on the OSU-OKC campus.
“I am extremely blessed to continue to be part of the Cowboy Family,” Woods said via OSU’s release. “My time as a student-athlete, my role at our OSU-OKC campus, and now as a part of Athletics provides me with a unique perspective of Oklahoma State University. I can’t think of a better place to continue positively impacting the STATE’s Institution.”
Woods played at Oklahoma State for 2004 to 2007.
Although his brothers were receivers, Woods initially came to OSU as a quarterback.
He was the Cowboys’ starter as a freshman in 2004 — Les Miles’ final year with the program. Woods led the Pokes to a 7-5 record that year, throwing for 1,628 yards and 13 touchdowns to five INTs. He was the Cowboys’ second-leading rusher behind Vernand Morency, running for 436 yards and another 10 scores.
Woods played two games at QB in 2005 — Mike Gundy’s first year — before switching to linebacker. He finished that season with 163 passing yards, one passing touchdown, 63 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, 32 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions — shades of Bob Fenimore.
The move to the defensive side of the ball stuck, as Woods closed his Cowboy career with 175 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and five picks.
He’d go on to play six games in the NFL across two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was part of the Steelers’ Super Bowl-winning squad in 2009.
Rashaun Woods, Donovan’s oldest brother, caught 293 passes for 4,414 yards and 42 touchdowns as a Cowboy. That’s the second-most catches, the second-most receiving yards and the most receiving touchdowns in an OSU career.
D’Juan Woods, the middle brother, had 163 catches for 2,751 receiving yards and 20 receiving touchdowns as a Cowboy — the 10th-most catches, seventh-most yards and eighth-most touchdowns in OSU history.
