The second episode of the ESPN+ documentary following Oklahoma State this preseason, entitled ‘Our Time: Oklahoma State Football’, aired on Thursday. The episode was just over 13 minutes in length and featured scenes from Mike Gundy’s farm (among other places). Below are the highlights.

Spoiler Alert

• Right off the bat, this episode has me hooked: it’s Mike Gundy on a Gator cruising through his farm, gathering eggs and petting his turtle. “She loves people,” he says of his turtle.

• “We have to play with the hand we’ve been dealt,” says Gundy of the virus, acknowledging that he is tired of the pandemic and empathizes with those who feel the same way.

• “Fire your glute, drive your heels straight back, then pull the knee forward,” says Rob Glass. I have no idea what any of that means but after watching him in action I can 100% say I would never ask.

• Good scene about halfway through of a staff meeting led by Gundy, on June 2, discussing the movement of fights against racial inequality and getting feedback from those in the room. Suggested to mix up players and position groups because sometimes position groups are all one color, and he wants everyone knowing everyone.

• Get you a QB1 who can do both.

• Gundy on the OAN T-shirt incident: “I’m not on social media, so people let me know. I did like I do any other thing; when there’s an issue I go find the issue and confront it. I went and found Chuba, sat down with him and listened for a couple hours.”

• Spencer on the incident: “We’re all good now, and that’s all that matters.” Said he talked with Chuba and Gundy and tried to learn as much as possible to reach a conclusion that benefited everyone.

• Gundy ends the episode on the farm, with his dad, Ray. He says that’s how he escapes (and how it helped him with the incident).

Shouts to Ray.

• “When some [of the players] said they haven’t spent enough time with me, well, it made me feel good that they wanted to. But it also made me realize me listening, making those adjustments has helped me become a better coach. That’ll help me for however long I continue to coach.”
