Eric Morris Picks Up Third Quarterback Commit in 2026 Class
Morris adds a smalltown QB from West Texas.
It looks like new Cowboy coach Eric Morris is taking a third quarterback in the 2026 class.
Hunter Trusler, a lefty from Dalhart, Texas, announced he is committed to Oklahoma State on Wednesday night.
Extremely blessed to have committed to my dream school @CowboyFB today! Can’t wait to get to Stillwater and get to work!

At Morris’ introductory news conference, he mentioned, “if I take a three-star quarterback, nobody get mad at me. … We have a set of qualifications in a kind of a formula that we have to recruiting these guys.”
That’s the case with Trusler, as he doesn’t even have a profile on the major recruiting services. So, no stars. But according to MaxPreps, Trusler threw for 2,215 yards and 25 touchdowns as a high school senior. He also ran for 1,202 yards and five more scores.
Playing at a small school, Trusler played both ways. As a safety, he made 97 tackles and intercepted five passes in his senior season.
Dalhart is a town of about 8,500 in the Texas panhandle. The Dalhart Wolves share a district with Shallowater — Morris’ hometown. Dalhart went 9-3 in Trusler’s senior season, making it to the second round of the Texas 3A-D1 state playoffs.
Morris also mentioned he likes multisport quarterbacks. Being a smalltown Texas kid, Trusler also plays basketball and baseball.
He joins Broderick Vehrs and Luke Tepas as pledged quarterbacks in the 2026 class.
