Final Notes and Thoughts on a Very Bad Night for Oklahoma State

Well, Saturday night did not go how I thought it was going to go (or wanted it to go). Oklahoma State got hammered at home by 2-1 Texas Tech and looked putrid in pretty much every way in the process. I wrote my 10 Thoughts here, but let’s empty the notebook before moving on.

• Zach Sinor might be back! I thought Carson had a pretty great tweet after his 67-yarder in the first quarter.

• I was cackling over those false starts inside the 1. False start, No. 58 offense, the ball will be moved back two millimeters. Theoretically this is the place to get a false start, I suppose, because there’s really no penalty at all. Plus it provided for what must have been the longest drive in Oklahoma State history by absolute yardage on the field.

• Seemed like a bad game for Bundage and Stoner to get hurt. If Stoner seemed invisible late, there was a reason. Gundy said he missed the second half after pulling something.

• Scott Verplank sighting!

• On the commercials FS1 showed during the game: I’m pretty sure Tony Romo doesn’t wear Sketchers slip-off shoes for their ease of use in the airport security line like he says he does.

• It seems mighty unfair that J.D. King can catch TD passes for OSU.

• My thoughts on Corndaddy are well-documented and a little wishy-washy probably. The reason for that is he can go 18/38 and not be able to hit Tyron in a 55-foot bubble, but then he makes throws like this and you do the Alonzo Mourning GIF.

• I don’t know if OSU’s defense had a bad day or if Alan Bowman is the next Patty Mahomes, but for a true freshman to go 35/46 for four bills and two TDs on the road at No. 15 is pretty impressive. The frustrating part? I don’t feel like OSU made him work all that hard for it. Also, every time I saw the name “A. Bowman” on his jersey, I laughed.

• OSU averaged more yards per carry than Tech did. I’m not sure what to do with that statistic.

• OSU was also 3/13 on third down conversions, which is not ideal.

• Bring me more of your Mason Rudolph slander, by the way. He really is the Landry Jones of Oklahoma State football history.

• A.J. Green giveth. A.J. Green taketh away.

• Tylan Wallace, confirmed monster. He’s had 38 (!) targets in the last three games.

• I wasn’t at the game, but apparently Viktor Hovland pretended to chug out of the Havemeyer trophy on the field during one of the timeouts. Legend.

• The lead announcer sounded like he was trying to be Gus Lite. Also, I was irrationally bothered by him calling OSU’s town, “Steelwater” and OSU’s running back, “Justice Heel.”

• Can OSU steal a few of these goal line plays?

• Malcolm Rodriguez is going to slay some people from that centerfield position. I love how they use him with their corners pressed up. Unfortunately it didn’t seem as if they pressed their corners and linebackers as much as previous games, but when it happened, he crushed.

• Kliff’s beard delights me. Also, when the bar says “open until 2 a.m.” on its sign but has last call at 1:35 ⤵️

• How many times has the phrase “shootout in Stillwater” been used since Gundy became the head coach? Over or under 1.2 million?

• Buddy cop movie, would watch.

• Maybe I didn’t realize it while it was happening, but I’ve gone back to this several times now: How did Justice only get 12 carries in the first Big 12 game of the year? I know only five of them went for real yardage, but my gosh, he reeled off 111 yards in the process.

• That is quite a list.

• Ammendola only misses field goals against Tech, apparently.

• I honestly became more interested in whether Army could down OU than anything that was happening in Stillwater at one point in the second half.

• This was an oddity, but everybody on the Tech sideline I saw behind Kingsbury had sunglasses on. It was like 9:30 at night!
