Former Cowboy Jordan Oliver Wins PFL Debut
‘There’s only one position I see myself in, and that’s being a world champion for the PFL.’
Jordan Oliver started his time in the PFL as a winner.
Oliver, who wrestled at Oklahoma State in 2008-13, made his debut in the PFL on Friday night and beat Braydon Akeo via unanimous decision in the featherweight bout. He’s now 2-0 in his professional MMA career after going 1-0 in Bellator. His PFL debut was delayed twice, forcing him to wait over a year between fights.
“There’s only one position I see myself in, and that’s being a world champion for the PFL and a world champion having that belt wrapped around my waist,” Oliver said during his post-fight interview. “When I do something, I jump in and I do it 110%.”

While at OSU, Oliver was a two-time NCAA individual champion, four-time All-American and four-time Big 12 champion. He also had a successful international career, winning the U.S. National Championships in 2019. Oliver was good enough for PFB to consider him as one of the greatest wrestlers from the John Smith era earlier this summer.
Despite such impressive wrestling accolades, Oliver didn’t score a takedown until the third and final round of the fight. He did out-strike Akeo, though, 43-35, ultimately leading to the decision.
Jordan Oliver ends the 3rd round on top likely securing the victory in his PFL Debut.

“I’m probably gonna get in trouble by these guys over here [Oliver’s coaches],” Oliver said. “But I wanted to come into mixed martial arts and not fit the mold of just a wrestler. So I got in here, I wanted to work on my striking. I got hit with a couple of shots. I landed a couple of hard, clean shots. He stayed standing in front of me.
“I enjoy this. I love it. I’d go 25-30 minutes, whatever they need. I’ll sit here and bang all day.”
