Former Oklahoma State Long Jumper Jacob Fincham-Dules Places Fifth in Olympics
He jumped 26.7 feet.
The long jump has been in the Olympics since the first games back in 1896, and a former Cowboy on Tuesday made some history in the event.
Jacob Fincham-Dukes placed fifth in the long jump Tuesday in Paris with a jump of 8.14 meters. That finish is an OSU-best placing for any individual track and field athlete in the Olympic games. The caveat there is that J.W. Mashburn earned Olympic gold in the 1956 Olympics as part of the United States’ 4×400 meter relay team.
Representing Great Britain, Fincham-Dukes was in Stillwater from 2016 through 2019, where he was a multi-time All-American. He won the UK Championships in June on his road to Paris.
Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou won the event with a jump of 8.48 meters. Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock earned silver after jumping 8.36 meters, and Italy’s Mattia Furlani secured bronze with a leap of 8.34 meters. For those who aren’t used to the metric system (like myself), Fincham-Dukes’ jump of 8.14 meters means he leapt 26.7 feet. For further reference, a college 3-point shot in basketball is 20 feet, 9 inches, so he cleared that.
