Steve Lutz is battling some basketball blue bloods for a four-star forward from the East Coast.

Kareem Stagg, the No. 107 player in the 247Sports Composite system for the 2025 class, cut his list down to Oklahoma State, Michigan, Houston and Georgia, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. Stagg will announce his college decision in about a month — Oct. 17.

Stagg plays at IMG Academy in Florida but hails from Virginia. He is listed at 6-foot-8, 225 pounds. Stagg has been a rankings riser as of late. In early June, 247Sports listed Stagg as the No. 222 player in the 2025 class, but Stagg came in at No. 72 in the service’s most recent update. Lutz and his staff have been a part of that come up. Stagg announced his OSU offer on June 4. Stagg cut his list to six in August (also including Wake Forest and Georgetown) ahead of this most recent cut.

The Cowboys could have an inroad with Stagg, too. Ryan Crotty, a four-star guard who committed to OSU earlier this month, played AAU ball alongside Stagg for Boo Williams on Nike’s EYBL circuit. Stagg averaged 13.4 points, six rebounds and 1.8 assists a game with Boo Williams at Peach Jam in July while shooting 54% from the field. In 15 EYBL games across April and May, Stagg averaged 10.4 points and 4.7 rebounds a contest while shooting 53% from the field. He also made 35% of his 20 3-point attempts in those games.

Along with his size, Stagg has some explosive athleticism that seemingly would fit well on any team but could particularly benefit from Lutz’s up-tempo style.

That’s a tough top group to contend with, but if Lutz and Co. can land Stagg, the two-man class of Crotty and Stagg would rank 14th nationally and second in the Big 12. That could set a solid foundation for Lutz’s first high school class, which could be especially important given seven scholarship players on OSU’s 2024-25 roster are seniors (including fifth years and graduate students).
