STILLWATER — Saturday’s Oklahoma State/TCU game got a lot more interesting Friday afternoon.

Reports came out that the Cowboys will be without star receiver Tylan Wallace, who tore his ACL in practice this week. The Cowboys talked about how tough TCU’s defense looks throughout the week, and now they’ll have to face it without one of the best players in college football.

OSU Offensive Head into Tough Defense without Top Weapon

On Monday, Mike Gundy praised TCU coach Gary Patterson as one of the best defensive minds in all of college football.

Gundy said that TCU will probably be the best defense the Cowboys have faced this season, and now OSU has to do so without Tylan Wallace.

The OSU offense has already struggled as of late. Despite winning in Ames, it was a defensive touchdown that gave the Cowboys the lead, and turnovers were quite the issue against Baylor and Texas Tech. The Cowboys haven’t scored 40 points in a Big 12 game this season.

The points count all the same, but it would be interesting to see how the Cowboys would’ve done without their big plays in Ames. They won the game despite going 0-for-0 in the red zone.

It’ll be a new test for redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders and new offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson, as both with have to be in their first game without a Biletnikoff-level receiver.

Battle of Big 12’s Longest Tenured Coaches

Four new coaches entered the Big 12 this season.

They’d have to stay at their respective schools until the 2039 season to have a tenure the size of Garry Patterson or 2034 to have a reign as long as Mike Gundy’s.

Patterson and Gundy have played seven times. Gundy has won four, Patterson has won three.

Gundy is an elder statesman in terms of offensive football, and Patterson is the same on defense.

“I don’t think there’s any secrets there,” Gundy said Monday. “We know each other very well. I have a lot of respect for him as a football coach. I don’t know that there’s anybody in the country that has a better defensive mind that him. Maybe there’s other guys out there just as good, but when it comes to being a defensive coach, he’s as good as anybody in the country.”
