Anthony Roy averaged 25.7 points a game last season while shooting 43% from 3, and now he’s a Cowboy.

Roy, a 6-foot-5 guard from Oakland, California, announced Saturday that he committed to Oklahoma State. He spent this past season with Doug Gottlieb at Green Bay and played at Langston the season before.

Roy played in just 11 games during 2024-25 before suffering a season-ending injury, but in those 11 games, he averaged 25.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals a game while shooting 50% from the field, 43% from 3 and 86% from the foul line.

“Anthony is already familiar with Oklahoma from his time at Langston, and we’re excited to welcome him back,” said coach Steve Lutz in OSU’s release. “He’s a big, versatile guard who can play multiple positions. He was one of the nation’s best scorers last season before injuring his foot, and he will thrive in our system and style of play.”

OSU got a good look at Roy when the Cowboys opened their season against the Phoenix. Roy scored 27 points for Green Bay in Gallagher-Iba Arena. He hit seven 3s.

“Obviously Anthony Roy can get buckets,” said Gottlieb after the OSU game. “The secret’s out on him.”

That ended up not even being in the top five of his scoring outings this season. Roy dropped 35 on Western Illinois in a game he hit eight 3s in. He scored 34 against SIU-Edwardsville and IU-Indy. He scored 31 against Evansville, and put 30 on Ohio State. In games Roy played at least 30 minutes in this past season, he averaged 27.2 points a game.

Roy led the Langston Lions to a 35-2 record and an appearance in the NAIA national title game during the 2023-24 season. He was a first team All-American with Langston and scored 18.4 points a game while shooting 42% from 3.

He’s also spent seasons at New Mexico State (2022-23), Wenatchee Valley (JUCO, 2021-22) and San Francisco (2020-21).

Roy played eight games as a freshman at San Francisco, averaging four points per while going 5-for-9 from 3. He averaged 23.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and four assists a game with Wentachee Valley, scoring 20 or more points in 18 of the 26 games he played in. Appearing in 16 games at New Mexico State, Roy averaged 10.3 points a game while hitting 41% of his 78 3-point attempts.

Roy becomes the Cowboys’ third portal pledge of the weekend, joining Mississippi State transfer guard Kanye Clary and Seton Hall transfer guard Isaiah Coleman.
